Villains Win at the Box Office

Cara Delevingne felt like she was losing her “f***ing mind” while making “Suicide Squad”.

The actress, who stars as Enchantress in the much-anticipated new comic book movie, has revealed she fantasised about killing people in “demonic” moments during filming. Studio data showed that females made up 46% of the crowd which is extraordinarily high for a comic book movie.

But it didn’t work. The DC Comics bonanza is eyed at $135.1. million for the weekend. That’s a record for an August release. The IMAX global take was $19.2 million, which surpassed the company’s previous best August opener Guardians of the Galaxy ($15.9 million).

Putting themselves up against Suicide Squad this week was Nine Lives which enters at number 6 with $6.5 million. It has now grossed $103.4 million – off the second-weekend pace of 2007’s “The Bourne Ultimatum”, which had tallied $131.6 million by the same point – with an additional $91.9 million overseas. Part of that missed mark can more than likely be attributed to the fact that movie already experienced an alarming 41% drop in revenue between Friday and Saturday.

Suicide Squad – boasting a friendlier PG-13 rating – has been savaged by critics and now suffers a 26 percent rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. DC fan favorites like Harley Quinn and the Joker all make an appearance in the film, but despite the heavy fanfare, the movie faced massive problems and complicated reshoots toward the end of its production. The 18-35 age group represented a stunning 48% of the audience. Not everything was roses for “Suicide Squad”, though, despite dominating the weekend.

STX’s Bad Moms continues its impressive run at the domestic box office at No. 3, falling a mere 40 percent to $14.2 million after opening to $23.8 million last week. According to Variety, the Warner Bros. film is expected to pull in somewhere around $147 million across 4,255 theaters when all is said and done after Sunday.

Less of a pitch down the middle than movies with famous superheroes like “Batman v Superman” and “Avengers”, “Suicide Squad” features a largely unknown team of super-villains forced to team up by the government. It’s been on the top 10 charts for 8 weeks now, earning itself a whopping $870 million along the way. Universal’s “The Secret Life of Pets” nabbed fourth place with $11.6 million. – The Wrap ” Suicide Squad deals with a 100% unreasonable solution to future threats…

“Star Trek Beyond” continue to lag well behind ts predecessors’ pace, grossing $10.2 million in its third weekend of release and reaching $127.9 million at home.
