“Was it necessary to spend Rs 10 crore, just to listen cow story from Modi?” he asked.
“If you want to shoot, shoot me”, prime minister Narendra Modi said, as he called for stopping the attacks on dalits and the politics over it.
On Facebook, the owner of Subramanian Swamy’s parody account has published more than 20 images of alleged cow protector goons with senior BJP leaders including the Anurag Thakur, the party MP and the newly appointed BCCI president.
Critics say killings in the name of protecting cows, considered sacred by India’s Hindu majority, have increased since the nationalist premier won power in 2014.
Modi said his government eliminated the role of middlemen, stopped leakage of gas subsidy and convinced 1.25 crore families to give up gas subsidy to use the money for providing connections to poor. “But he could not muster his confidence to make a statement in the House, and thus, he made statements outside”, said the BSP chief taking strong exception to the Prime Minister’s statements at the TownHall meeting in Delhi and BJP workers’ meeting in Hyderabad. Stating that the government is giving priority to agriculture sector, he said if farmers get water, they have the capability to produce gold out of soil. “BJP’s attitude on the issue of cow is well known”.
“I want the real cow protectors to expose them (the fake ones), and the state governments should take stringent action against them”, Modi added.
Modi has faced criticism for remaining silent over the attack on the villagers last month by so-called cow-defenders in his home state of Gujarat.
Modi also sought to distance his party from the cow vigilantes, saying they were not legitimate cow protection groups. “If you want to shoot anyone, shoot me, not my dalit brothers”, declared Modi in his stentorian voice as he attempted to douse the fire of anger that had quickly spread among the dalits after four young men were ruthlessly beaten up by cow vigilantes in Gujarat.
