Rio 2016 Olympics: Laptop, Shirts Stolen As Australian Athletes Are Evacuated
A fire allegedly broke out in a auto park bin, which led to “around 100 officials and athletes” leaving their rooms before the building was cleared as safe, by which time their belongings had already been stolen.

According to sources, the shirts and a laptop belong to a cycling official.
Shooter Warren Potent slept through the fire evacuation of Australia’s Olympic building which forced a revamp of emergency plans. A member on the Board of Swimming Australia, Slattery said of his motivation to assist, “From just seeing the effort and investment these swimmers make – they’re just such good kids – so that’s how I got involved …”
If bravery was an Olympic sport, the 10 athletes who make up the first-ever refugee team in Rio would be odds-on for a clean sweep of the gold medals. Mosquitoes carry the Zika virus, and many teams are using long-sleeved shirts for protection. Chiller says they discovered after the fact that the alarm system had been deactivated in the building for a period of several hours while work was being done on the building next door. “I did not know then whether they were volunteers who were given shirts because they helped to evacuate us”.
“The Olympic Games represented an excuse to improve all of Rio de Janeiro”, Temer told those gathered at the inauguration of the six-stop line which is expected to serve more than 300,000 passengers a day.
Overnight, firemen were stationed on all floors, and security guards in the basement, in a temporary measure.
But athletes are less concerned about the theft, and more concerned about the lack of fire alarms; people were notified about the blaze by word of mouth.
“I will raise the Olympic flag, but I’m a little bit sad in my heart and mind because I can not march under the flag of my country”, she said.
Australian hierarchy have since triple-checked the fire alarms are working again after Chiller met with Rio 2016 organisers and the International Olympic Committee.
“There was no point in laying blame or saying “could have or should have” at that point last night”, she said.
Despite the problems, Chiller said the delegation felt safe in Rio.
The team moved in three days later after hasty repairs. Of all the 31 buildings it had to be building 23?

Rubbing tears from his eyes, the 24-year-old athlete delivered a message for his family: “If you can see me on television now, you can see that your brother is here in Brazil and alive and well”.
