The Pokemon GO player said he was at the jetty to catch some water-based characters of the game for about half an hour when he notice a group of people looking at the body which was afloat in the water.
Pokemon GO, a worldwide gaming sensation, became available for download in Singapore on Saturday.
While out hunting Pokemon at Woodlands Waterfront Park on Sunday, netizen Azmi Suarez got more than he bargained for when he came across the body of a dead woman.
“I was standing at the jetty and the crowd was looking in the direction of the jetty, so I looked down on the water and saw the dead body”. Another dead body has been discovered by an unsuspecting Pokemon Go player. “This is just a coincidence that this incident took place while I was there”, he said.
A police spokesman said it was investigating the unnatural death.
The 29-year-old Mr Azmi who has been a Pokemon fan since he was in Secondary 2, also expressed his condolences about the woman, who looked elderly.
He said he wouldn’t have been at the scene if not for Pokemon GO, as he seldom visits the Woodlands Waterfront Park.
“I wasn’t the first person to find it”.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said players should not play the game while driving, and reminded the public that all its camps and units, including fire stations, are restricted areas and not accessible without clearance. “Rest in peace whoever you are”.
