Delta responded to various tweets from irate customers, saying its systems are down and all flight operations are to remain grounded while it figures out a solution.

Delta flights are slowly resuming at Metro Detroit’s airport after a power outage for the airline in Atlanta grounded its flights worldwide.

If you’re booked to fly Delta today (August 8), you could be waiting a while to catch that flight. Flight-status systems, including airport screens, incorrectly showed flights on time.

As of 10:30 a.m. ET, Delta operated 800 of its almost 6,000 scheduled flights.

Jetport Director Paul Bradbury said that as of 10 a.m., one flight to La Guardia Airport in NY scheduled for 5:30 a.m. had just left, and a second departure to NY originally scheduled for 7:15 a.m. was about to take off. Morning flights to Atlanta and Detroit were still delayed, he said. During the next 90 minutes, there were only five departures – three flights from Amsterdam, one from Jacksonville, and one from Saipan, during which there were 99 scheduled departures, not counting regional partners.

The Joseph family from Suffern, New York, arrived at LaGuardia Airport in New York early Monday morning for a flight to Orlando, the start of a vacation to Disney World for their six children. The Duluth International Airport website listed a 6:30 a.m. Delta departure to Minneapolis as “delayed”. She’s flown on the airline several times and never had problems, which is more than she can say for other airlines. They advise passengers to check flight statuses online before leaving for the airport.

“We apologize to customers who are affected by this issue, and our teams are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible”, the company said in a statement.

Delta customers headed to airports should expect delays and cancellations.
