Trump is set to deliver an economic speech on Monday to the prestigious Detroit Economic Club in his effort to step past his spats over the past 10 days with the Muslim-American parents of a slain Army captain and the leaders of a Republican Party he has promised to unite.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s lead over Republican rival Donald Trump narrowed to less than 3 percentage points, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Friday, down from almost eight points on Monday.
“We will have disagreements”, Trump said. Arm in arm, we will rescue the nation from the Obama-Clinton disaster, which is exactly what it is, that has bled our country dry and spread terrorism unabated across the world.
“In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation”, wrote Morell.
“I don’t throw babies out”, Trump said. So extending an olive branch to Paul Ryan – the popular Republican representative of the 1st District of Wisconsin – looks like a strategic move for Trump if he wants the support of fellow Republicans hoping for a strong challenger to defeat Hillary Clinton come November. “That announcement was a reversal from earlier in the week, when the presidential nominee declined to endorse the speaker”.
“Sen. McCain, please remind Donald Trump that we are people, not pawns”, Cravens said.
But Trump’s assault on Clinton’s character also came as he himself faced stinging criticism from top United States officials, including a damning editorial on Friday in which the former acting head of the CIA, Michael Morell, a well-respected and non-partisan figure, endorsed Clinton and warned that Trump “is not only unqualified for the job, but he may well pose a threat to our national security”.
Trump also endorsed New Hampshire Sen.
Trump claimed that Islamic State militants were watching the election closely and “salivating” at the prospect of a second Clinton White House.
I may have short-circuited and for that I will try to clarify, Clinton said, though still insisting she never sent or received anything that was marked classified..
Trump is facing a rough time in the recent polls, lowering nearly 15 points and having Republican candidates switching votes to benefit contender Hillary Clinton.
“And very importantly, toward real change”, Trump said, reading off a prepared statement.
Two members of Congress locked in competitive races made themselves scarce when Trump arrived in their states Friday.
On Tuesday Meg Whitman, a Republican donor, and CEO of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, announced her vote for Hillary Clinton on Tuesday.
Trump economic adviser Stephen Moore told Reuters that the candidate’s plan would focus on four areas: tax, deregulation, energy policy and trade.
“I don’t believe anyone who’s a career politician anymore”, he said of Ryan.
