Tennessee gas prices have declined for 53 consecutive days, dropping 30 cents during that time. The national average is $2.120, down 1.9 cents since last Friday.

Nationally, gas prices are the lowest they have been in 12 years, according to the autoclub group AAA.

Experts say the low gas prices are due to high supplies and lower oil prices. The lowest regional averages in the state are Chattanooga at $1.751, Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol at $1.803 and Clarksville-Hopkinsville at $1.814. Hurricanes have impacted the distribution and production of gas in Midwestern states, which resulted in higher gas prices.

AAA says that while a record number of American motorists have hit the road for summer travel this year, much lower gas prices have not triggered the sharply higher gasoline demand that many analysts had anticipated.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped today to its lowest amount since March 21, decreasing 1.1 cents to $2.729. The state average is four cents less than last week’s price, 18 cents less than a month ago and 54 cents per gallon lower than this time previous year. Founded in 2000, GasBuddy.com developed as an initiative to provide consumers access to local, current gas prices. In Fort Worth and Dallas, the average price is $1.92 and $1.94 respectively, a 20-cent drop.
