Imad’s bowling helps Jamaica clinch second CPL title
Guyana got off to the worst start imaginable with Andre Russell, later named the player of the tournament, dismissing Nic Maddinson caught behind in the first over of the game, with just one run on the board.

As the innings progressed Gayle was happier to go for the big shots as he hit back-to-back sixes off Jacobs in the final over of the PowerPlay which brought 17 runs.
Sohail Tanvir’s 42 was the only noteworthy score in the Guyana innings after Jamaica Tallawahs won the toss and chose to field. During the sixth over Gayle became the fourth batsman to pass 400 runs in this edition of the Hero CPL.
Jamaica Tallawahs beat Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL final. Two balls later, Anthony Bramble was bowled backing away for a slog and Imad claimed his third in four balls to start the 14th when Rayad Emrit was stumped for nought missing a flick to a legside wide to make it 83 for 7. The decision was spot on as Tallawahs shot out Amazon Warriors for a paltry 92.
That acceleration from Gayle continued after the fielding restrictions were relaxed as he took 18 runs off an Adam Zampa over as the Tallawahs got two thirds of the way to their target with just seven overs gone.
Unfortunately for the Amazon Warriors that injection of attacking intent from Smith also brought about his dismissal when he was caught in the deep for 17 (22) to give Oshane Thomas his first wicket in professional cricket. The experienced Sangakkara then ensured there were no more hiccups as he added 16 runs for the second wicket in 3.1 overs with Walton to seal the game. The reliable Jason Mohammed was lbw to the first ball he faced in the ninth over, playing down the wrong line to one from Shakib and Chris Barnwell followed in the 13th over, picking out Gayle at mid-wicket with Imad Wasim. Total (all out in 16.1 overs) 93.
Pakistani left-arm spinner Imad Wasim was the chief destroyer, taking three for 21 while seamer Kesrick Williams (2-12) and left-arm spinner Shakib al Hasan (2-25) supported with two wickets apiece. That soon became 91-9 the very next ball when Williams bowled Jacobs.
Chris Gayle scored 54 runs from 27 balls with three fours and six sixes whereas Chadwick Walton and Kumar Sangakkara scored 25 and 12 runs respectively with the blade.
Just when the partnership began to look unsafe, strikes from Oshane Thomas (1-28) and Shakib Al Hasan (2-25) sent Smith and Jason Mohammed (0) back to the hut in consecutive overs.
