According to USA Today, it was obvious what went wrong, as the leg made a sharp crack that could be heard throughout the venue.

He received extensive treatment on the mat before being stretchered out of the arena for medical treatment.

Despite the bad day, Said posted a video from his hospital bed in relatively high spirits, saying he had open tibia and fibula fractures. Trainers and emergency staff moved Said onto a stretcher and fans cheered as he left the Rio Olympic Arena.

Very hard.”Ait Said wasn’t the only gymnast who had trouble on vault”.

I wanted to make a little video to thank you for your messages of support.

“Even though we’re on different teams we know each other and I’ve known Samir since I was 14”.

“It was on a vault, he landed, and the leg broke in the same way”.

“I’m behind all my pals”, he said. They are real fighters. “I can be back on my feet in not very long, well “on my feet”, everything is relative”. “He came to win a medal and gave everything”.

The injury means Said will leave the Olympics prematurely, having also been expected to compete in the men’s parallel bars, the individual all-round, the team all-round, floor exercise, rings and the pommel horse.
