In a statement the Gardaí said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
The gardaí said that no data was compromised, and the Pulse and garda website were not affected.
“Working with security experts the threat was identified and an appropriate solution was implemented across all Garda Siochana ICT systems”.
“Any security risks to the Garda ICT systems are treated with the highest importance and standard security protocols are implemented”, the spokesman added.
Gardai said they identified a “zero day” or new strain of malware threat on their systems on the day in question.
The garda computer systems contain highly sensitive data ranging from open criminal investigation files to data relating to members of the public and staff.
