Rio welcomes the world to Summer Games

Double Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes proudly led out Team Ireland at the Maracana Stadium at a spectacular opening ceremony in Brazil in the early hours of Saturday morning. This is the evaluation of the ministries of Justice, Defense and of Institutional Security.

The iconic Maracana Stadium will host a pulsating gathering for more than 70,000 fans, 10,400 athletes and dozens of world leaders as the first Olympics to be staged in South America gets under way.

Flag bearer Jia Lui leads Austria’s Olympic team. Where London 2012 went for spectacular displays of music and history featuring thousands of volunteers, the Rio 2016 opener was a futuristic production with a simple message – Save the Planet. Only Brazil’s team, which marched last, drew a louder roar from the crowd than the refugees. He has taken over the reins of the country from Dilma Rousseff, who has been suspended and is facing impeachment proceedings later this month.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our athletes who have displayed such tremendous dedication and commitment”, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.

And Olympics rings were formed with sprouting seed boxes during the ceremony, with athletes given tree seeds and soil catridges that will be planted in a Rio park.

Today, the group came back with a new batch of data dumps, this time belonging to the government portal for the state of Rio de Janeiro, and one from the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.

The Opening Ceremony at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games may have opened up with a dance party, but it was a video on climate change watched by roughly 3.3 billion that made people stop what they were doing and focus on human-made pollution.

“In a way the Olympics is good for Brazil to help us develop, but the country is very sad, full of violence and unemployment”, Carlos Roberto, 56, a dockyard worker told AFP as the Olympic flame passed through the city.

After 18 gold medals and 22 medals overall in his storied Olympic career, Michael Phelps has finally entered an opening ceremony.

Athletes spend hours on their feet at the opening and often get to their beds well past midnight, not exactly the best situation for athletes looking to perform their best a day later. All in all, it truly reflected the culture of Brazil and Rio.

The cannonball-shaped cauldron was lit by Brazilian marathoner Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima.

“We need help, and it seems freakish to beg when the city I live in is hosting the Olympics”, he said. One segment acknowledged that African slaves were brought to Brazil, with more than 5.5 million slaves bound for Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries.

The creative minds behind the opening ceremony were determined to put on a show that would not offend a country in dire economic straits but would showcase the famously upbeat nature of Brazilians.
