Nebraska receives votes but lands outside coaches poll Top 25

All five Power 5 conferences had at least one team in the top 10.

Half of the preseason top three teams the past two years have made the Playoff.. The second-ranked Tigers are followed by No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 4 Florida State, both programs Clemson defeated previous year.

Those two squads garnered all but two of the first-place votes from the panel of 64 FBS head coaches.

Ohio State is right behind FSU at No. 5. The final regular-season poll is scheduled to be released December 4.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones, to no one’s surprise, said he wasn’t concerned about the poll and wasn’t aware of it before his news conference Thursday afternoon. The LSU Tigers stand at No. 6, meanwhile. LSU, Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame and Tennessee, in that order, round out the top 10. The team is losing a ton of talent including ACC Defensive Player of the Year and All-American safety Jeremy Cash and All-ACC center Matt Skura.

At least with our preseason ranking lower than previous year, the national expectations appear to be lower. In fact, I think they have a really good shot at winning the SEC East, and should they do that, I’ve no doubt that they’ll be ranked in the top 10. Only the SEC had as many schools in the first 15 spots. Oklahoma State 20. North Carolina 21.
