Delta Air Lines flights grounded worldwide after major IT meltdown
“Due to a computer outage, flights awaiting departure are now delayed”. But as the airline works through the rest its schedule Monday, that number will grow.

Reports of delays on social media appeared to have begun around 3 a.m. ET.
Flights scheduled to depart from Winnipeg at 12:04 p.m. and 5:23 p.m. are now on time, an airport spokesman told CBC News and said delays aren’t expected for Delta flights arriving in Winnipeg from Minneapolis.
Delta said in response to customer complaints on Twitter that its systems were down everywhere, but “hopefully, it won’t be much longer”. The airline declined to immediately comment by phone and it was unclear whether all its flights were affected.
Delta issued a statement saying it apologized to customers and said teams were working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
“While systems are improving and flights are resuming, delays and cancellations continue”, the airline said.
The problems also meant flight information was not showing correctly on Delta’s website or on airport information boards, and this could also take time to resolve, the carrier said in the latest update.
In Las Vegas, stranded passengers were sleeping on the floor, covered in red blankets. Technological issues extended even to the company’s website.
Among those affected was Tanzie Bodeen, 22, an intern at a software company who lives in Beaverton, Oregon.
“The airline provided passengers with little information”, said New Yorker Carly Hayes, who was due to travel from Fiumicino Airport in Rome to New York’s JFK, in an Instagram post. “Are they going to put us on other flights, or we’re just going to sit here in the airport?” she said. She had left for Minneapolis St. Paul airport at about 4 a.m. and learned about the delays only upon her arrival – when she found news crews gathered at the door.
The company said travelers will be entitled to a refund if the flight is cancelled or significantly delayed.
Sean Carson, who planned to travel from Kona, Hawaii, to Los Angeles, said he had been on a plane for more than four hours. Last month, Southwest Airlines canceled more than 2,000 flights over several days after an outage that it blamed on a faulty network router.
