At the time of writing, some Delta flights have taken off but thousands of passengers will still experience delays.

Twitter users report chaos and hours-long lines at airports around the world.

Many passengers were frustrated that they received no notice of a global disruption, discovering that they were stranded only after making it through security and seeing other passengers sleeping on the floor.

Another customer said they were “blindsided” by the outage when they arrived to the airport two hours early for their flight. Around 6 a.m. PT, Delta said that “limited departures are resuming”.

The airline said if a flight is canceled or significantly delayed, passengers will be entitled to a refund, though it did not specify what is considered “significantly” delayed.

“Passengers become increasingly reliant on their ability to check in online (and) check their flight status”, said Daniel Baker, CEO of tracking service FlightAware.com.

The airline is under fire after a worldwide power outage caused flights to be canceled and delayed. But “cancellations and delays continue”.

Flights awaiting departure are delayed, according to the statement, while flights en route are operating normally.

Delta customers should check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The airline has published a waiver for customers traveling on August 8 through August 12.

It was a morning when you “couldn’t get there from here,”as a Delta jet sat on the tarmac at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport”.

The cause of the power outage was not immediately known.

It might be time for Delta to invest in some new backup generators.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights.

Cassie Chou took to Instagram to share a picture of inside the airport and added a caption saying Delta staff in Heathrow were “handwriting tickets manually”. “Hopefully it won’t be much longer”, the airline said on Twitter.
