Newt Gingrich just said Donald Trump is ‘more unacceptable’ than Hillary Clinton

Back on the defensive, Donald Trump’s campaign chief acknowledged conflict inside Trump Tower on Thursday as anxious Republicans struggled to shift voters’ attention to Hillary Clinton’s record on foreign policy. When asked what is needed for Trump to become the next president, Gingrich said that Trump needs to “slow down, take a deep breath, and reorganize how he’s operating”.

WASHINGTON ― After a disastrous week for a Republican presidential nominee, you might have expected the party to circle the wagons and bring out its most prestigious leaders to defend their candidate, particularly in front of a friendly, conservative news outlet.

Trump’s advisers must be telling him that he should avoid picking fights that will reflect poorly on him and that make him sound like a petulant 2 grader.

Top Republicans who have backed Donald Trump’s presidential bid are planning to meet with the GOP nominee to urge a reset of his campaign after a tumultuous few days.

But Gingrich is convinced Trump can withstand the current chaos and thrive in the fall campaign. He may even go after the interveners.

Following a series of negative headlines – including insulting the family of a fallen soldier, declining to endorse John McCain and Paul Ryan in their primary campaigns and saying his daughter could just get a new job if sexually harassed – Trump has faced an onslaught of criticism this week.

In the last 48 hours alone, Trump continued his war of words with a Gold Star family, declared that he’d “always wanted” a Purple Heart but that it’s “easier” to receive one as a gift, and declined to endorse Republican candidates including House Speaker Paul Ryan. If he did, why would he want Ayotte, for example, to lose her Senate seat to her Democratic challenger, Governor Maggie Hassan? “This was much easier”.

“I know how hard John works for veterans, for the military, for our national security – and I know that John McCain is a national treasure”. After all, you’re never too old to follow your dreams.

There’s still a way for him to win-and Clinton, who should be trouncing him, is still within a polling margin where a Trump surge could catch up with her post-convention bump…if he got his act together. Conservative columnists feel impelled to criticize him. “There is certainly every opportunity for Trump to win this election”.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Trump “should have done that in the first place”, but has “gotten the messages” from other Republicans to unify the divided GOP.
