Cell phone video recorded during the concert captured the moment the rail collapse (see below). Most were treated for bruises and other minor injuries, but some also suffered broken bones.
Authorities say multiple people have been hurt after the railing collapsed during the concert. The lawn sits several feet above a concrete walkway, and the railing failed where the support poles met a support wall, according to the reports.
The incident happened around 10.30pm leading to shouts from the stage as Wiz and Snoop were calling for the audience to “stand up” at the time.
Live Nation, which operates the concert venue, has announced that it did secure the railing prior the event, Yahoo!
In a statement, concert organizer Live Nation said it was “closely following” the injured attendees’ recovery and was working with local authorities and engineers to determine the cause of the barrier’s failure. One person remained hospitalized and dozens of other injured after the collapse.
Snoop and Wiz are ushered off the stage as security moved in to help the fans.
The “Merry Jane Presents Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa: The High Road Tour” began July 20 in Florida and concludes September 2 in Washington.
Concertgoer Katie Colbridge – who was uninjured and one section away from the affected area – said that people in the crowd were moving around trying to get a better view when the “whole fence collapsed”.
They canceled the rest of the show and cleared the pavilion.
BB&T and Live Nation will install permanent railings to replace what collapsed, he said, and the city will inspect the permanent fixtures.
