Lyft Adds Ability to Make Multiple Stops on a Trip

Now, there’s no more convincing drivers to make multiple stops for you or confusion about how best to input your destination in the app if you plan to make more than one stop.

The ability to add a stop will roll out to Lyft’s mobile apps soon. With all the data Lyft and other ride-sharing platforms – including Uber, Grab and Didi Chuxing – are gathering, each will continue to add more features that leverage those data troves to make operations run more smoothly and lure more customers. If you decide to remove the extra stop, you can do so. The new feature streamlines the process.

Lyft will also let you change your mind and remove the stop if you decide against whatever it was you were going to do. To add a stop, tap on the “+” and enter an address. An “add destination” field will then appear, so your driver knows where to go first.

According to Lyft, manually altered destinations account for about 5% of its trips. And because Lyft often pairs drivers who are about to end a current ride with a new passenger located nearby, this new feature should help drivers to increase earnings, while helping give passengers shorter ETAs. Adding a stop doesn’t cost any additional fees, but you’ll be charged for however long the stop takes based on the per-minute rate for your city.

Lyft states that this feature is “coming soon”, so expect the update to show up on Google Play in the near future. All of which sounds very convenient, which is nice, but Lyft is looking to optimize its service by acting on actual data in adding this feature, which isn’t now offered by its largest competitor Uber.
