Approximately 365 flights were cancelled.

While the problem has been resolved, Delta says the ripple effect will be delays for travelers for much of the day.

Airport spokesman Glen Thomas said the only cancellation was Delta’s morning flight to and from Detroit.

A single flight from Minneapolis to Traverse City was canceled because of the computer problem, he said.

Bradbury said passengers booked on Delta flights later in the day should continue to check the airline’s website for their flight status.

“Delta has experienced a computer outage that has affected flights scheduled for this morning”, the company tweeted to customers affected by delays.

“We say don’t rely on the board, don’t rely on the things you hear, contact your airline directly, that sort of thing, that’s our role to make sure people follow the right paths of communication so they hear the right thing”, Lynah said.

Passengers told CBS4 they were frustrated with the lack of information. There may also be some lag time in the display of accurate flight status at delta.com, the Fly Delta App and from Delta representatives on the phone and in airport.

In South Florida, the outage led to backups at the airports in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Even if passengers’ flights today haven’t been canceled, the company said travelers will be able to make a “one-time change” to their tickets without paying a fee as long as the ticket is reissued on or before August 12, 2016. “All flights en route are operating normally”, according to the company’s statement.

Delta said the problem was caused when the electric utility, Georgia Power, had an outage. That’s the most likely explanation for Delta. “So in this case, the fact that we grounded all flights globally for a better part of Monday because of a power outage is troubling”.

It’s unclear how long planes will be delayed in Buffalo.

That has afflicted airlines in the USA and overseas.

-September 17 – American Airlines halted flights to several major US hubs for about 2 hours because of connectivity issues.

“Systems related, technology related”.

Lines for British Airways at some airports have grown longer as the carrier updates its systems. In Tokyo, a dot-matrix printer was resurrected to keep track of passengers on a flight to Shanghai. Both flights were roughly on a three to four hour delay Monday morning.

The glitch follows several high-profile computer problems faced by US airlines in the past year.

Kaplan said all airlines have some old components in their IT systems, including Delta.

“They finally said we have to get off the plane it’s going to be about another hour”, Oakes explained.

Since then, Delta announced that they’re offering waivers and refunds for customers impacted by the cancelations and delays.
