Delta Airlines officials say a power outage in Atlanta is what caused all of the chaos worldwide on Monday morning.

-January 14 – JetBlue delayed flights after power was disrupted during maintenance operations at a Verizon data center.

“I don’t fly that often, my husband flies all the time, Delta, never has a problem”, said one passengers.

At 7:30 a.m., Delta announced that they’d be offering waivers for customers traveling August 8 through August 12. All flights en route to airports were operating normally, but flight status systems, including airport screens, were incorrectly showing flights as being on time, the company said. Delays and cancellations linger.

Thousands of people were stranded Monday after Delta Air Lines flights were grounded around the globe due to a system outage. Southwest said it canceled 2,300 flights between July 20 and 24, about 12 percent of its schedule, and FlightStats Inc. said more than 8,000 flights were delayed.

The company lost power around 2:30 a.m.at its Atlanta hub but gradually resumed it six hours later. “We went outside to check a bag and they said the system is down”.

The company is releasing official updates through their website along with a flight waiver for those traveling between August 8 through August 12 that can be found here.

In Richmond, Va., Delta gate agents wrote out boarding passes by hand.

Here’s a quick rundown of other days that proved trying for both airlines and passengers.

As of 9:40 a.m., Delta has cancelled 300 flights. “So I sat here for an hour or two and they said things were slowly coming back up”, said Delta passenger Mary Byrne. “I’m flying over to Alaska for my work meeting, so it’s very important that I get there”, she said.

The company issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience and said its teams were working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. The airline also wrote that it would, of course, be issuing free flight changes and travel vouchers for customers affected by the outage.
