‘Agonising’ wait – then bronze joy for diver Tom Daley

Team GB’s medal tally continued to rise in the 2016 Rio Olympics after Ed Ling blasted his way to a bronze medal in the men’s trap shooting.

Ling defeated Czech rival David Kostelecky 13-9 in the bronze medal match to win his first Olympic medal at his third games.

Team GB has added two more medals to its earlier gold and silver, in a successful third day at the Rio Olympics.

He beat Kamar easily to move into the bronze medal match, where he missed just two of his 15 shots to dominate Kostelecky.

This was uncharted territory at a Games for Ling, who finished 25th on his debut in Athens and then 21st in London four years ago, when Peter Wilson won gold in the double trap.

Gold was won by Josip Glasnovic of Croatia, the country’s first medal here, who beat Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo 4-3 in a shootoff after the pair had tied their contest 13-13.

He said: “I thought, “oh no, what have I done”, but once that had gone he gave me another chance and I had to try and take it”. “I set my goal to reach the final and once you’re in the final anything can happen”. I know he’ll be absolutely over the moon with this.

“The qualification rounds have been really tough. we’ve had changeable weather, for two out of the three rounds we’ve had high winds, blowing things everywhere”.
