Charles Barkley: best parts about golf are “drinking and smoking”

Saban casually mentioned that he plays golf, then said that perhaps he and Barkley could play some time.

A auto dealership in Anniston, Ala., has found a clever way to tout its services while poking a little fun in Alabama coach Nick Saban’s direction. So, when he showed up on the Tuscaloosa campus to interview head football coach Nick Saban, you better believe there could be some animosity between the two. “As great a coach as you are, if you fix my golf game, anytime you come to Arizona I’ll put a statue of you outside my house”, Barkley said.

When talking about golf-not a strong spot for Sir Charles-the 64-year-old coach insisted Barkley was not a lost cause.

If you meet Charles Barkley, you will be astonished at not just the size of his head, but also at the sheer sphericality of it. According to Barkley, kids will do stupid things and shouldn’t be immediately discarded for doing so, and Saban shouldn’t be criticized for not immediately kicking a player off the team.

Cooper Chevrolet Buick’s advertisement on YouTube features a Saban stand-in at a podium using numerous terms and mannerisms we’ve come to know from the Tide coach’s press conferences.

“Most of the guys I’m playing with work for me … so you could get fired!” he said. You could be a really good player. Saban can help Barkley fix his golf game, while Barkley can help Saban fix his grilling skills.

He credits his lack of tolerance of grilling and cooking to his time at LSU, where all the men would bring their own equipment to make authentic Louisiana food.

The former National Basketball Association forward, who has perhaps the wonkiest golf shot in America, told Saban the only good thing about the sport was “drinking and smoking”.
