Cueto Hurls Royals Win

That is an entirely true statement.

-LHP Brian Flynn (left latissimus dorsi tear) was called up from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled list May 16.

Boyd (1-2, 7.90 ERA) will be making his fourth career start and second straight against Kansas City. When Dyson made a good throw to Esky (shortstop Alcides Escobar), I still didn’t think they had a chance. Yes, the Detroit Tigers are not the Tigers of old, nor are they even the same team from the beginning of the year. Boyd and the Tigers were unable to replicate that magic tonight, dropping a 3-0 game to the Royals. “I just give up the home runs”.

Two of those nine base-runners were erased by the Royals’ defense as the Tigers unsuccessfully played the part of aggressors on the basepaths.

The defense helped immensely.

-LF Ben Zobrist logged his second three-hit game since joining the Royals, and he also walked.

The Dodgers sit first in the NL West, but they’re not without their troubles: the club’s bullpen has been bad of late, blowing a big lead in Sunday’s game against the Pirates (reliever Jim Johnson gave up eight runs in two-thirds of an inning).

The shutout lasted until the first out of the next inning.

San Diego interim manager Pat Murphy was not pleased after a walk to Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton and got ejected by home plate umpire Tony Randazzo.

After Morales issued a one-out walk to Jose Iglesias, Ned Yost trudged back out to the center of the diamond, gesturing with his right hand for Luke Hochevar. “They don’t enforce it. Well, he said if he stops it’s an illegal pitch”.

The Royals starter, Cueto, did a great job of getting ahead in the count.

As has happened in each of the past three games, the Royals scored multiple runs in the first inning.

In the first inning, the Royals struck with Lorenzo Cain and Kendrys Morales. He’s always got another trick up his sleeve. He recently threw six innings against Kansas City at Comerica Park, yielding four earned runs and striking out six while not factoring into the decision.

“It was pretty fun to see, his first game as a Royal at the K and hear the crowd out there in the ninth inning”.

With that run, the Royals had built themselves a 5 – 0 lead.

In hopes of allowing no more runs, Detroit put in Kyle Ryan, who pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings to end the game. Hochevar came back out for the top of the eighth inning. Can they get to him again tonight?

Freese situation is iffy • Angels third baseman David Freese (broken finger) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as early as this weekend, it was reported Monday, but the Los Angeles Times later said he still can’t grip a ball without experiencing discomfort so that return could be delayed. If you’re sitting on a changeup; which one? “He really keeps you in the game with all the different leg kicks he’s doing and the way he mixes in his pitches with different leg kicks”.
