Dashlane Will Work With Google to Enhance and Simplify Your Password Security

As it’s open protocol, others will be able to add the feature if they wish. The Open YOLO (You Only Login Once) API takes things a step further by allowing third-party apps to rely directly on the password manager for those credentials – bypassing the need for end users to sign-in in the first place.

Google is planning to help Android users move away from having to remember passwords on their many accounts through the help of standardizing password managers.

Even if you use a password manager, the experience on Android isn’t always great.

To solve that problem, Dashlane is creating an open-source API that will enable app developers to access passwords stored in pretty much any password manager.

“In the future, we see this open API going beyond just Android devices, and becoming universally implemented by apps and password managers across every platform and operating system”, said Malaika Nicholas, Dashlane community manager. The goal of said managers is to create, story and then apply your passwords for various websites so you won’t have to remember them every single time you are asked for them.

Via a new Google project, you eventually may not have to remember the passwords to your apps or websites. Many password managers are already involved in the cause or planning on joining the team.

What are your thoughts on the Open-YOLO API Project?

Password management is something we’ve harped on for quite some time, urging everybody to use strong passwords, password managers, two-factor authentication, the whole nine yards. Smart lock also allows limited password sharing from those stored in Chrome’s password library.

In its release Dashlane says it is spearheading the collaboration with other top password managers, but doesn’t mention names. “We look forward to expanding this collaborative project that will benefit the entire security industry”.

Originally founded in Paris and now headquartered in New York, Dashlane has raised just over million in funding.
