Russell Knox, from Scotland, celebrates after the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Cromwell, Conn., Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.
“I thought about it (Ryder Cup) on the last tee to be honest”, Knox said. “I could’ve ripped my shirt off”.
Knox closed with a 2-under 68 for a 14-under 266 total at TPC River Highlands.
The win ensures Knox joins World No. 1 Jason Day, US Open victor Dustin Johnson along with Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott as a double victor on this year’s 2015/16 PGA Tour wraparound schedule following his success in November’s WGC HSBC Champions event.
Kelly, the 49-year-old former University of Hartford player, finished with a 64. Furyk teed off at 8:41 a.m. starting 1-over par while the victor finished at 15-under and didn’t tee off until six hours later.
Furyk, the 2003 US Open champion, recorded one eagle and 10 birdies to be tied for fifth at 11-under after opening with rounds of 73, 66 and 72. Carta won the par-5 35th with a 30-foot birdie putt, and Seong missed a chance to end it when her 10-footer burned the right edge.
Then he buried a 12-foot putt and threw his hat about 50 yards in celebration.
“I played nicely but to make a putt like that to win a tournament, that’s everybody’s dream”, he said.
“I mean, golf is so hard, you lose every week pretty much, and to make that putt, I mean, it’s just the greatest feeling ever”.
“Rather than just kind of mailing it in, I went to the range”, he later explained.
Justin Thomas was nearly an afterthought despite shooting a 62 and stringing together five consecutive birdies to close out the front nine. He was third at the 2013 BMW Championship and finished in a tie for fifth place Sunday, three shots behind champion Russell Knox. Then that player would actually hole the approach shot for an eagle-2 on the final hole and an unexpected 58.
Harrington – who had shot a fine 65 on Saturday – had made the turn in one-under but he struggled on the back nine with a six-over-par 41.
He rolled in a short par putt on the final hole, thrust his arms in the air and waved his cap to salute thousands of fans who had rushed to the amphitheatre around the 18th green to catch a stunning slice of history.
It was his second PGA Tour victory. Other notable finishes included Patrick Reed tying for 11 at nine-under while last year’s victor Bubba Watson finished tied for 25 at seven-under.
Prior to Sunday, only six players had managed to score a 59 in a PGA event. “Jerry!” by pounding his heart with his fist as he walked up the 18th fairway.
“That putt, I’ll remember it forever”. “Those guys play great golf and I’m looking forward to getting out there”.
Seong won her second straight U.S. Girls’ Junior title last month at Ridgewood in New Jersey. That honour belongs to Rhein Gibson, an Australian pro, who shot a 16-under-par 55 on May 12, 2012, at River Oaks Golf Club in Oklahoma.
His birdie putt on No. 16 dropped him to the historic 58 number, and he parred the final two holes as a large gallery cheered him on.

That’s a terrific week of work, good for a paycheck of $382,800 and a nice boost to his FedEx Cup standing. In match one, Tiffany Kang of Suwanee earned all three points for Georgia with her win over Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C., 3 and 1.
