In his last seven races, Johnson has led just one lap. He was served a drive-through penalty for an uncontrolled tire during his stop. He also was followed by his teammate Brad Keselowski in third. He was one of six drivers to serve drive-through penalties for running more than the 45 miles per hour maximum speed limit.

However, in the closing moments at Watkins Glen International, there Hamlin was. Limits are different at other tracks.
His death was announced Monday morning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The cars aren’t equipped with speedometers, so drivers have to downshift and judge their RPMs (usually aided by lights on the dash) to maintain a legal speed. Hamlin now has won at superspeedways, intermediate and short tracks, and road courses. Greg Biffle and Austin Dillon are also involved.

By NASCAR road racing standards, this was a strangely unsatisfying affair with a pair of red flags and a series of crashes in the second half of the race that eliminated the usual fuel-mileage-strategy tension.
“Today I slept wrong or something, and woke up and knew I was in pretty big trouble”, he said.
Hamlin finished ahead of Joey Logano, who took advantage of a Brad Keselowski-induced spinout by Martin Truex Jr. on the final corner of the race. He explained the rash of violations may have been due to calculating errors. “Trust me, I’m sitting there, even though I’m joyed that we’re leading the race, I was thinking under the red flag, ‘Let’s get this over with so I can get out of this vehicle'”.
“We will need to continue to build on what we’ve built up to this point”, Stewart said. “You can’t race without them”. Of the 31 infractions handed out, seven were for speeding.
After winning at Pocono six days earlier, Chris Buescher had a bad race at Watkins Glen, where he got crashed and finished 30.
Lap 48: Matt DiBenedetto, uncontrolled tire – pass through penalty. With only six top 10s and two top 5s in 20 prior road course starts beforehand, Hamlin’s previous history didn’t read like one that would lead to a another shot at victory lane on a road course, either.
“It’s very hard to win these races”, Hamlin said. It proved to be too conservative of a choice, as drivers said they lacked grip, especially early in runs like restarts.
“You can’t predict every problem that’s going to pop up”, Preece said.
At least for now, I’m going to assume Cassill will be allowed to run clean, and since he is starting dead last, he has nothing to lose through place differential.
