Olympics-Archery-South Korea restore order with men’s team gold

South Korea’s Kim Woo-jin made the most of flawless shooting conditions to set a 72-arrow world record in the Olympic archery at the Rio de Janeiro Games on Friday (Saturday NZ Time) and fire an ominous warning at challengers to his gold medal claims.

What else could Kaminski and his teammates, Brady Ellison and Zach Garrett, have done?

Under Lee, the US captured the men’s team silver at the London Games to end a 12-year medal drought, having inflicted a seismic semi-final defeat on the Koreans to snap their run of three Olympic titles. In the semifinals, he shot 10s on his final two arrows as the USA swept aside China to reach the finals. He didn’t have an arrow score below a nine.

Japan dominated the first set with well located serves, including two consecutive aces by Shimamura to put their side out of reach at 20-13.

In all, they shot 18. We say that we believe in each other and try to have confidence.

“She knows it, but it’s not what’s driving her”, said Bruce Gemmell, Ledecky’s coach.

South Korea and the US team were 1-2 in the seeding round Friday, meaning they were in opposite brackets and couldn’t meet until the gold-medal match. Woo-jin set a recurve world record with a score of 700 during the qualifying round of archery.

Having never won a team archery medal in the history of the Olympics, Australia’s bronze medal came as a big surprise on the first day of competition in Rio.

“We did well, but South Korea just did so great”.

Former Edgewater resident Jake Kaminski and the United States settled for silver in the men’s team archery event at the Rio Olympics on Saturday. A ideal score is 720.

-“He was ideal. It’s a big incentive for me, to go further, to go higher and higher”, Marcus D’Almeida of Brazil said.

South Korea is now 2-for-2 in archery so far in Rio, and it’ll look to complete an unprecedented gold medal sweep with the men’s and the women’s individual events remaining.

Ki, the defending champion in the individual event, was magnificent, striking four flawless scores and landing the winning shot to clinch her third gold medal.

In their own quarterfinal match, after receiving a bye, the American team met Indonesia, who had upset Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16 earlier today. “I think it will be good and we will get better together”. “I’ll try to win gold in Tokyo four years later”. “When I find the answer, maybe I’ll go up to them”.
