Clinton camp strives for unity as convention ends
In her speech Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center, Clinton blasted Trump for stating that he knows more than American generals about the Islamic State.

US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says the challenges facing Americans demand steady leadership and a collective spirit, contrasting her character with what she described as a risky and volatile Donald Trump.
In contrast, a Roll Call review of 22 speech transcripts of the GOP elected officials who took the podium in Cleveland found 135 mentions of Clinton and only 86 of Trump.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign is offering a preview of her acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, where she’ll say “America is once again at a moment of reckoning”.
Eight years after losing her Democratic nomination race to Barack Obama, the former first lady, USA senator from NY and secretary of State also sought to reintroduce herself to the American people, with the help of testimonials from other speakers and a biographical film.
Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus said Thursday, “For decades, Hillary Clinton has been embroiled in scandals caused by her own lies and unethical behavior, and Americans have had enough of it”. “That’s why it’s very important to have a strong victory, so that the first woman president will have a Congress that cooperates, not obstructs”, said Pelosi.
Donald Trump’s campaign manager says that if Hillary Clinton is right that it’s, “midnight in America”, it’s the fault of Democratic leaders. “Donald Trump, you are no Ronald Reagan”, said Doug Elmets, a Reagan administration aide, echoing a famous debate quip by vice presidential nominee Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.
Her speech touched various topics ranging from households problems to climate change, LGBTQ issues, and police conflicts with local communities, America’s relations with other nations, democracy, war on terror, rival Donald Trump, and other issues.
“She’s been there for us, even if we haven’t always noticed”, he said.
In a almost hour-long speech, she said one of her primary missions as president would be to create more opportunity and more jobs, and acknowledged national security would also be a key issue. The shoot-from-the-hip billionaire believes he can make headway in those states with blue-collar white men, a demographic that has eluded Clinton and was unlikely to be swayed by a convention that heavily celebrated racial and gender diversity. He wants to divide us…
Clinton referenced another former president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, saying that he gave Trump the ideal rebuke more than 80 years ago “during a much more perilous time”.
Sanders did so Tuesday morning – after he gave a rousing speech Monday night in favor of Clinton’s candidacy. “No, Donald, you don’t”, Clinton said. “I used to ask my God to let me live so I can see this”, 102-year-old Geraldine Emmett kept telling reporters who lined up for brief interviews with her on Tuesday.
In an hour-long primetime address, she laid out plans to improve the USA economy, stressing that “my primary mission as president will be to create more opportunity and more good jobs with rising wages”.
Just over 3 million people watched Clinton on Fox.
“I will be a president for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents”.
Through the final day of the convention, Clintons campaign tried to balance promoting a progressive message that would appeal to Sanders supporters with inching onto Republican turf left open by the unconventional campaign of Trump. “I will gladly lend you my copy”. She called for a clear path to citizenship for immigrants, and said she would not ban a religion. They seem to have had an impact, with TV ratings for the DNC so far topping those of the Republican convention.

“Today in America, LGBTQ people are still targeted by hate that lives in both laws and in hearts”, said McBride.
