Sammy led the West Indies to the WT20 title but criticised the WICB at the post match conference and this did not go down too well with the WICB.

St. Lucia, Aug 9 (IANS) Hard-hitting all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite was on Tuesday appointed the new West Indies captain for the two Twenty20 global matches against India later this month scheduled to be held in Florida.

Brathwaite was instrumental in West Indies’ T20 final win over England.

Sammy was sacked on Friday after a six-year spell in charge had brought success in the 2012 and 2016 World T20 championships.

Sammy claimed he was dumped in a 30-second phone call from chairman of selectors Browne.

The Test team will start their third match of the four-match series in St Lucia tomorrow.

The two T20Is between India and West Indies will be played at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 27th and 28th August.

With respect to Brathwaite, the chairman was glowing in his praise.

Sammy, meanwhile, struggled during the T20 World Cup, scoring eight runs from three innings and sending down three overs and taking one wicket.

Denesh Ramdin, Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn and Ashley Nurse are also not named in the squad. The all-rounder has also been omitted from the squad for the two upcoming games against India in Florida, which will also see the return of Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard – the duo that had pulled out of the World T20.
