Other inmates have painted a picture of corruption within the prison before the two killers’ notorious escape.

Federal prosecutors say a group of hackers made $30 million by breaking into the computer systems of companies that publish news releases about mergers and acquisitions.
In addition to the alleged physical abuse, after the escape inmates lost a number of privileges they had earned in the prison.
The Times says that more than 60 inmates have filed complaints with Prisoners’ Legal Services, an organization that helps inmates.
“The quantity and similarity of the complaints is troubling”, Cassidy said, adding that inmates’ constitutional rights against cruel and unusual punishment may have been violated. Numerous were exchanged and invested energy in isolation and some are as yet missing their garments and different things, he said.
When convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped from upstate New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility in June, parts of the public were practically rooting for them. “What did you hear?” a guard allegedly demanded.

Toxicology tests showed Matt’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit to drive when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tactical Unit member killed him June 26 with three shots to the head. Two prison guards, however, have been charged for providing Sweat and Matt with the tools they needed to break out, and 12 staffers are reportedly on leave following questions about their role in the escape. Ex-inmate Erik Jensen described Sweat as a methodical mastermind in an interview with WYNT Albany, and said the escapee would often manipulate prison worker Joyce Mitchell – who was ultimately arrested for helping the duo escape from the prison.

Additionally, several prisoners were placed in solitary confinement, even though they were not linked to Richard Matt and David Sweat’s escape.
