“It feels fantastic to win the first official game”. We want to play to be champions.

I’m super happy. Hopefully I can win much more than this.

“It’s an important victory but we have lots of work to do”, Mourinho said.

José Mourinho won the first trophy of the new season in his first competitive game as Manchester United manager and immediately dedicated it to his predecessor. “You can see it’s a strong team”.

The 23-year-old France global left Old Trafford four years ago after he wasn’t given sufficient first-team assurances at the time, with Pogba heading to Italy instead where he’s won four Serie A titles with Juve.

The Portuguese boss also went on to say that Mata “played very well” and that he gave the experienced manager “exactly what he needed” during the small amount of time that he was on the pitch.

“I think Bailly was the flawless opponent for that because he is as fast as they are”.

Reigning Premier League champions Leicester equalised through Jamie Vardy as he capitalised on a soft Marouane Fellaini back-pass but it was left to Ibrahimovic to mark his first appearance with the victor.

The striker, who has scored goals throughout his career, has now found the back of net on 374 occasions in 630 club matches. After netting the winning goal, Ibra suggests things can only get better once he has a greater understanding with his new teammates.

“It feels good to be in Manchester United and this is what counts”, he added.

“When you win a Premier League after a couple of weeks it still feels surreal and you have to feel if the hunger is still there”, he said.

“When all these things are settled, things grow easily”.

“The first official game, we play for a trophy and we win”.

“Things are coming together”.

And while the Premier League champions were unable to win the annual season curtain-raiser, they will surely be ready to kick off the defence of their title away to newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday.
