No easy way for Trump donors to cancel recurring campaign donations

You can’t cancel your recurring donation to his campaign. Dennin set up a $1 recurring payment and then tried to cancel it.

“Once you’re registered, if you try to change your payment information on Trump’s site, you will see no option to remove your credit card – only “update” it”, according to Mic’s experiment.

One donor emailed CNN reporter Jeremy Diamond about the issue.

An odd quirk has cropped up on Donald Trump’s campaign website that has some donors seeing red.

Then, when you click on “update card”, you see a page that allows you to alter your payment information – but you can not completely delete your credit card.

You can update your card details.

The page won’t let you remove the number, only replace it with another valid credit card number.

Hillary Clinton’s email confirmation has a designated email for donor questions.

The Clinton campaign also has a clearly marked “remove card” button on the saved payment information part of the site.

If you want to stop sending money to him, you may have to cancel your credit card entirely and get a new one, or go through your bank yourself to contest the charges.

Federal Election Commission spokesperson Christian Hilland told Mic that there’s nothing illegal about this because there are no explicit rules about the cancellation of recurring campaign contributions.

The only way the FEC would begin investigating a recurring donation is if the total was more than $2,700, the federally mandated maximum donation amount. So you just keep paying Trump’s campaign, we suppose, until the end of time.

Some businesses are more transparent than others: Spotify, for instance, has a handy “cancel” link right below the button for updating payment information.
