Benedict made his debut as Hamlet on Wednesday, receiving mixed reviews from critics.
He said the audience was there “to see him, not to see Hamlet” though he conceeded he that he did find it hard to understand Cumberbatch’s surprise at the behaviour as fans “were flying in from L.A and New York” to see him perform on stage.
“I don’t want that to happen”. “So listen, this isn’t me blaming you, this is just me asking you to just ripple it out there, in the brilliantly useful way that you do, with the amusing, electronic things”.
Cumberbatch said the theater would have devices ready on Monday that would detect phones, in order to evict audience members who use them. Cumberbatch added that he did not mind photos being taken outside the venue. On Saturday night, the actor appeared in front of a gathering crowd to request they “tweet, blog, hashtag the sh*t” out of the production to help get the word out to like-minded fans.
The Daily Mail’s Jan Moir hailed Cumberbatch’s performance as “electrifying” and gave the production at London’s Barbican theatre five stars. Cumberbatch is now doing “Hamlet“.
The role is one of the biggest challenges of the actor’s career. The character has been performed by greats including Sir Laurence Olivier, Mark Rylance, Peter O’Toole and, most recently, David Tennant.

The 12-week manufacturing bought out in minutes in August 2014, with the manufacturing turning into the fastest-selling present in London theater historical past. T ickets are now being sold on eBay for $300. But it is not only proving detrimental to the turnout of the show but to the performance of the actors as well.
