Osweiler responds to Elway’s remarks on QB

John Elway finds himself in a situation where he has to make do with Mark Sanchez as his starting quarterback.

This quote has been repeated and re-purposed over and over again by countless people, but it may not apply better than it does to the Duke of Denver, John Elway. In the past six months, Elway has watched his team win the Super Bowl in convincing fashion, followed by the retirement of the future Hall of Fame QB he brought in to bring a Championship back to Denver and the exit of what he thought was his franchise quarterback. But similar to what he did to Osweiler last season, it would be the best time to adapt his dish of “needing to change something’ when he was interviewed by the Denver Post”. So I was a little surprised just how he seemed to be a little bent out of shape about that.

Elway completely ignores every other issue that led to the quarterback wanting to head out of town.

Osweiler’s right. There’s no competitor that wouldn’t want to continue playing in that situation.

“I’ve only kind of heard about it, of why he may have been a little bit upset about the way things went”. Osweiler said via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I think when you look at the seven games that he started and the way that he played, he made some good strides. We’re now in August, we just had a great training camp practice and I’m excited to play the 49ers coming up”.

Brock also called out Elway in there for acting like a competitive quarterback should have been thrilled with being benched. The deal he got was believed to be a lot bigger than what the Broncos had on the table. Manning was bad in 2016 and any other team not run by a former quarterback would have pulled the plug on him. A month later, Osweiler inked a long-term contract with the Texans.

Since the messy breakup, Elway has moved on, trading a conditional seventh round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Mark Sanchez, the presumptive starter to begin the Broncos title defense. And the pass rush still has its star in all-pro outside linebacker Von Miller, Elway’s first draft selection who is now a handsomely paid Super Bowl MVP.
