Delta Air Lines to cancel nearly 250 flights on Tuesday

Delta was compelled to cancel more than 870 flights on Monday while it delayed others.
_July 20 _ Southwest Airlines had a computer router failure that forced the cancellation of about 2,000 flights and the delay of about 7,000 more flights over three days.
The Atlanta-based airline ended up canceling about 1,000 flights Monday after a loss of power led to a computer outage that affected its flights worldwide.
A long line formed at Indianapolis International Airport as anxious Delta travelers waited to check in for their flights.
The company has not said yet what the financial impact of the incident will be.
Delta issued an apology to customers and said teams were attempting to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
It posted a video apology from Delta chief executive Ed Bastian, and said about 3300 of its almost 6000 scheduled flights had operated by 7pm (local time) on Monday.
The airline is struggling to resume normal operations and clear a backlog of stranded passengers 17 hours after an outage at its Atlanta, Georgia facility initiated the meltdown.
Delta said the problem was set off by a power outage at its Atlanta hub and the failure of key systems to switch over to backup power.
The problems also meant flight information was not showing correctly on Delta’s website or on airport information boards, and this could also take time to resolve, the carrier said in the latest update.
In May, a glitch affecting Sweden’s civil aviation authority radar site disrupted air traffic throughout that country and grounded flights to and from Stockholm for several hours.
“It’s my first time in the United States of America, my first visit and I’m very disappointed”.
After about 1,000 cancellations Monday, Delta said it expects to call off more than 200 flights Tuesday. United Airlines and American Airlines both suffered outages previous year – United has struggled with several meltdowns since combining technology systems with merger partner Continental Airlines.

“Because we’re delayed four hours on this flight, we’re going to miss our flight to Brisbane”, he said.
“Then the pilot came and they said the flight was canceled because the crew can’t work more than 10 hours”.
