Lane Johnson facing 10-game PED suspension, awaiting appeal

The tackle was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson could be suspended for the first 10 games of the 2016 season.

Lane Johnson just responded to text message and said that “all was good”, and denied report he’s been suspended for 10 games for PED use. At the time, Johnson said he had taken a prescription medication without checking with the Eagles’ medical staff.

Jay Glazer reported, after speaking to Johnson, that Johnson took an amino acid that is considered an approved substance, but tested positive for peptide, which is a class of hormones which includes human growth hormone and human chorionic gonadotropin. That’s because they wanted Johnson to get comfortable playing alongside right guard Brandon Brooks and also because they do not believe Peters’ injury is serious.

This is Johnson’s second offense.

Pederson could move Tobin to the right side if Johnson loses his appeal (and Peters is healthy), or he could go with Dennis Kelly at that spot.

Johnson’s extension from the Eagles contains $35.5 million in guaranteed money, and it’s worth noting that a suspension would void all of it, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. So would Allen Barbre, who has played tackle in the past, but that would entail making a change at left guard.

With Johnson now having to sit for the first 10 games, the Eagles will likely look at the watered-down free agent market for depth.
