Google’s latest Inbox update adds project management tie-ins with Trello, GitHub

Google’s advanced Inbox email app has picked up a sizable update with features that tie into some of the most-used project management services like Trello and GitHub, as well as new integrations with Google Alerts and Google Drive.

If you use Trello, you’ll get a summary of what’s new with your Trello projects, so you can stay up-to-date on the latest updates.

Similar is the case with software collaboration platform Github, that will keep you up to date with all changes made to your code on the platform. Once you’ve read a particular newsletter, Inbox will minimize it to save space.

Inbox might be one of Google’s most controversial products – some love the time-saving features and some hate them (such as our Glorious Leader, Artem). Instead of opening the original email, tapping or clicking on the Google Alert notification opens a native experience that lets you browse the latest updates from Google News. Google notes you can also adjust permissions for the Drive links you insert.

In addition, Inbox will now also show you the same glanceable view it uses for newsletter or alerts from Google News, too.

These type of app integrations appear to be the next step for Inbox, which has proven to be a fertile testing ground for Google’s Gmail team to reimagine how email functions.

With this update, you can also drag and drop contacts between the To, CC, and BCC fields in the email composer window on the web. All of these updates should roll out today for Inbox users on the web, and they should be present in the Android and iOS apps as well. Both of them work like the other integrations, grouping and categorizing emails from the services into an easy to read list, which should reduce clutter in the inbox and improve readability.
