Speaking to reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, FX CEO John Landgraf said die-hard viewers waiting for an announcement about the subject matter of season six of the Ryan Murphy drama will have to keep waiting.
Just when you thought your frustration with American Horror Story’s coy promotion of Season 6 might be coming to a middle, FX throws a curveball.
“Every year, we lay out the themes and the new genre Ryan is going to be approaching; we thought it’d be fun [this year] to keep it a mystery – so we are”, Landgraf said. He also said that he sees “no end-game in sight for American Horror Story”, so some of those hypothetical trailers could wind up hinting at future seasons.
And as for those trailers, well, they’re all part of the misdirection. The past two seasons, we’d argue that the show struggled because there were so many things that fans were looking forward to, and for many reasons we don’t think the writing fully matched them. “One of them is accurate, the others are all misdirects”. And those teasers we’ve seen?
There have been rumors that season 6 might center on a colony of some sort or at least be set during colonial times, with TMZ taking photos from the set that suggest this time period.
If you’ve been holding your breath for the announcement of American Horror Story’s Season 6 theme, you should probably exhale now.

The new marketing strategy is an effort to change up how American Horror Story comes to its viewers after five seasons of the same structure. “It’s only the limits of the stories or your imaginations that ends the show”.
