Katinka Hosszu, Hungary’s “Iron Lady” who won the 400m individual medley in world record time on Saturday, sits in second, a tenth of a second off Baker.

The NBC analyst criticized for calling the coach of Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu “the guy responsible” for her turnaround says it is impossible to tell Hosszu’s story without crediting him.

Kylie Masse of Canada and Fu Yuanhui of China tied for the bronze medal with a time of 58.76.

Australian world champion Emily Seebohm, swimming in an outside lane, set the early pace but Hosszu powered her way through the field in the last half of the race to touch the wall in 58.45 seconds.

Elizabeth Beisel, one of the USA swim team co-captains, finished in sixth place with 4:34.98.

“I just was hoping I did well”, Baker told media. She owns a silver medal in this event from the 2012 Olympics. They finished in seventh and eighth place Monday night.
