Furyk shoots PGA-record 58

Furyk was the most recent PGA Tour player with a 59.

It will also be remembered as the best chance Jerry Kelly had to winning a tour event in the state he went to college in nearly three decades ago. Furyk also shot a 59 in the third round of the 2013 BMW Championship. After winning the Travelers with a sand save out of the front bunker on the final hole, and a hat toss in celebration as the par putt curled into the cup, Knox should become a little more familiar to the American television audience.

“I’m stunned. It’s going to take a little time to sink in”, said 46-year-old Furyk.

“Amazing, eh?” Justin Rose said from the practice range at the Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro. “To do it in one season is pretty awesome”.

By the time he had finished his round, the overnight leaders were still to tee off on the first, and Furyk had leapt from the bottom of the leaderboard to fifth, where he would eventually finish, three shots behind victor Russell Knox. “These are three places that have absolutely adopted me and call my name and just make me feel like family, and like it’s home”.

Berger’s threesome included South Africa’s Tyrone Van Aswegen (65) and Russell Henley (65), who along with Scotland’s Russell Knox (64) are tied for second. He could earn a wildcard selection there.

Wall overcame a sluggish start and eventually secured a one-up win over favourite Noren, who missed out on a double following his victory in the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart last month.

Knox, the world No. 26, had one previous victory at the 2015 World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, becoming the first player from Scotland to win a WGC event. He took the lead with birdie putts at Nos.

Two birdies and a bogey saw the Irishman score 34 on the front nine, but a wayward tee shot on the 462-yard 10th was a sign of things to come. Headed for the Champions Tour next season, Kelly showed that the magic of golf is that a player never totally loses the ability to compete in a given week. “It was a different golf course this afternoon than it was this morning”. The three matched birdies on the par-4 18th on the first extra hole. His birdie on 14 put him up by two.

He then went on an incredible seven birdie run from the sixth to the 12th before picking up his final stroke on the par-three 16th. If I don’t make the team, I can’t think I’m worthy of a pick. It is trying to find a way to stay out of your own way, really.

Jim Furyk broke the PGA Tour single-round scoring record after shooting a 12-under-par 58.

Wall then made birdie at the long 11th to go one up and he maintained his lead to win on the last when Noren missed a birdie effort from 15 feet that would have forced extra holes.

Fishman said Travelers would donate $58,000 to the charity of Furyk’s choice. “It’s kind of a reminder no matter how bad you feel with your swing, you’re never that far away”.

“The old 59 is like a dog’s breakfast, all done put them on the ground”, said Appleby, who finished tied for 47th place Sunday.

Glen Day (Little Rock) shot a 4-under 68 to finished tied for fifth at 16 under, good enough for $76,562. Rodgers shot a 68. “Not often do you shoot 62 and get your butt handed to you”.

History was made in multiple ways at the Travelers Championship on Sunday.

And Kelly, originally from Madison, Wis., is right: This was the best he’s ever played in his adopted hometown. “I played pretty well in Canada (RBC Canadian Open, 13th) but really struggled through the week at the PGA (Championships last week)”.
