Seth Rogen revisits Katherine Heigl’s “Knocked Up” drama, asks for personal apology

The apparent feud began nearly a decade ago, after Heigl seemingly criticized her 2007 film “Knocked Up”, which also starred Rogen, in an interview with Vanity Fair: “It was hard for me to love that movie…”

Seth Rogen was knocked down by Katherine Heigl’s comments about “Knocked Up”.

In the 2007 comedy, Seth and Katherine played lovers Ben and Alison who conceived a baby after having a one-night stand and then try and embark on a relationship and get ready for parenthood.

In a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair, Heigl complained about her time making the Judd Apatow romantic comedy, saying it “paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys”.

“I was never that mad honestly”, he said. “Like, I would be whatever the shitty version of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is”. “I thought we had a great dynamic, people seemed to like it, we were amusing together, I was having a really good time, and then when I heard afterwards that she didn’t like it. your trust feels betrayed somewhat”. I think that was, like, the root of everything. We have a very open process.

“I respect the fact that perhaps she realizes that it hurt her career, and I don’t want that to have happened to her at all”, Seth said of the reaction.

She continued, “I did it (apologised) publicly instead, and kind of tried to say, ‘Look, this was not what I meant, this was an incredible experience for me and they were incredibly good to me on this movie so I did not mean to s**t on them at all, ‘ but I thought about writing a note”.

Seth, who served as one of the movie’s executive producers, hit out at the former Grey’s Anatomy star over her comments, but he now insists the situation was made out to be worse than it was. I think what it was, I thought she hated us.

The 37-year-old Emmy victor famously told Vanity Fair in 2008 that the critically-acclaimed “sexist” flick – which amassed $219.1M at the box office – ‘was hard for me to love’. “I have no bad feelings towards her at all”. “Why is this how your portraying women?”

The feud all started when Heigl told Vanity Fair that Judd Apatow’s 2007 film was “a little sexist” for its portrayal of women. It’s hard to read her remarks as a criticism of Rogen in any way, especially given that Rogen didn’t write or direct the film.

When asked if he would take a call from her, Rogen replied, “I would, of course”.
