House Speaker Paul Ryan wins GOP nomination to run again

Wisconsin businessman Paul Nehlen made this assessment Monday during an interview with Breitbart News on SiriusXM radio. Trump waited until last Friday to offer his support of the speaker. But it only came after he’d given major air time and attention to the little-known Nehlen. In June, he produced a misleadingly titled video called “Exposing Paul Ryan’s Drug Problem”, which was about the flow of drugs crossing the US border and featured Nehlen trudging through the shallows of the Rio Grande carrying a plastic tub labeled “DRUGS”. And Trump lost Ryan’s district to Ted Cruz by 19 percentage points in Wisconsin’s presidential primary. And Nehlen had never run a campaign before, let alone one against the nation’s highest Republican officeholder.
Indeed, Ryan isn’t Cantor. Nehlen had gained little national attention until a recent Twitter exchange with Trump.
Some voters in House Speaker Paul Ryan’s district say they’re ready to send him back to Washington once again.
At a town hall at a local tools manufacturer in Racine Monday, Ryan made the case for trade deals broadly, saying the USA needs to engage on the world stage. But when he was specifically asked about the Trans-Pacific Partnership by a worker, he criticized the deal.
Bob and Maureen Becker both said they voted for Ryan.
Trump, a former reality TV star, has troubled many in the Republican establishment with his off-the-cuff, often insulting style, and controversial policies, including the proposed ban on Muslims visiting the United States and his plan to build a wall along the Mexican border to keep out illegal immigrants.
Magney said the law was written to prevent election bribery by showing a vote to get paid to vote a certain way. I know a lot of people say just get rid of trade agreements, don’t do trade agreements, and that’s bad. “That’s a problem for us”. And that’s what, yeah, and that’s what Donald Trump says is right, is we want good trade agreements. “That’s the difference here”.
Green Bay is ground zero for one of Tuesday’s more closely watched races. In May, he challenged Ryan to an arm-wrestling match. Ryan did not take press questions.
The Ryan campaign has argued essentially every poll has its candidate with a big, double-digit lead and on Tuesday predicted victory.
In a sign of the tension between the politicians, Trump told the newspaper he was “not quite there yet” – almost the same phrase Ryan had used about Trump.
“I’m not going to try and psychoanalyze this stuff”, the House speaker told Weber.
“You would not believe the people that I’ve talked to … who have said, ‘I’m inspired by what you’re doing, ‘” Nehlen said.
Still, Trump offered his support later that night. “And very importantly, toward real change”, he said.

Louise Bauman, a Janesville, Wis., voter, said there’s no way that Ryan – their two-heartbeats-away-from-the-White-House and hometown hero – could lose his seat in Congress.
