Buffy Honors “Brave Friend” Brenda Walsh, ’90s Fans Everywhere Weep
Sarah Michelle Gellar is so proud of her “brave friend” Shannen Doherty – who is struggling with breast cancer – and so touched by how she is handling her diagnosis, that she’s shared a lovely pic honoring her #MondayMuse. Originally diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015, Doherty sat down with ET for an exclusive interview, during which she announced the cancer had spread.
She has also been flooded with support from fans and social media users which send constant messages of prayers and well wishes using hashtags such as #CancerSucks and #ShandoArmy.
The actress took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum, who is battling breast cancer. Sarah Michelle Gellar worked on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Shannen Doherty worked on Charmed.
“Each person’s cancer journey is different”.
The former teen idol had a single mastectomy in May and will proceed with radiation therapy after her chemo treatment ends. “I’m learning that it’s ok to fall into bed and give in to the exhaustion or nausea or aches”.
Doherty has been documenting her own journey through treatment. She has had three out of eight chemotherapy sessions as of yet, and she will go for radiation therapy once the chemotherapy is over.

Although Doherty is fighting for her life, the actress says that this prognosis has only made her marriage to Iswarienko stronger than ever. “I could not have gotten through this without my husband [Kurt Iswarienko]”, she said.
