Jets activate Muhammad Wilkerson off the PUP list

In the final game of the season against the Buffalo Bills, Wilkerson suffered a broken leg and has been out since.

Tuesday’s move makes Wilkerson eligible to participate in training camp practices.

His activation from the PUP list, and his participation is practice, is a real sign that he’s making progress toward being on the MetLife Stadium field on September 11 when the Jets open their season against the Bengals. “It’s something that could be frustrating at times”, he said. “But he bounced around pretty good, so that was good to see him in pads and helmet”.

“It felt good to break down the huddle”, Wilkerson said. “So I’m glad that process is nearly over and I’m back to being full-go”.

Wilkerson received a contract extension two weeks before training camp began, a deal worth more than $85 million that included $37 million in guarantees through the first two years.

With Wilkerson being activated today and RB Khiry Robinson activated Monday, that leaves two players on Active/PUP – RT Breno Giacomini and WR Devin Smith.

Wilkerson, when asked if he’ll push the coaches to allow him on the field, sounded a bit surprised that playing was a possibility.

It was a feel-good day.

“He’s in shoulder pads for the first time in a while”, Bowles said.

Even if Mo were to get a full turn with the ones at the start of the Jaguars game, it would only be about 10 plays. Then you wait to see until after the last preseason game to see who surfaces the next week. “We trust that he’s going to have himself in shape.”.
