USA women win second straight gold in all-around gymnastics

Biles needs only three Olympic gold medals to become the most decorated American gymnast of all time, and her coronation seems likely; she is the favorite to win gold in five of the six women’s gymnastics events in Rio. It will be which teams get silver and bronze behind them.

During NBC’s primetime broadcast of the Olympic gymnastics qualifying round in Rio on Sunday, Trautwig stated that Biles, 19, “was raised by her grandfather and his wife, and she calls them ‘mom and dad'”. Their not-a-typo score of 185.238 was almost 10 points better than second-place China through four of the five subdivisions, a preposterous gap in a sport where the difference between first and second is measured in fractions.

The US women are also on a winning streak.

After Douglas won two gold medals and became the first African-American woman to become the individual all-around champion in London 2012, more people especially in minorities have been inspired to follow her steps.

The United States entered the Olympics as the two-time defending world team champions and as the team to beat.

China and Russian Federation both struggled at times on Sunday, beset by mistakes they can’t afford to make if they want to make the team finals anything more than a coronation.

Biles was the top qualifier for three event finals: vault, balance beam, and floor.

And just like that, the young women in the glittery red-and-blue leotards national team coordinator Martha Karolyi has molded into a global force relaxed.

“Nah, I’m good”: Twitter users were not impressed with the loss.

She is a three-time world champion in the all-around and a four-time USA all-around champion.

A Black-American teenage girl, Simone Biles is making history in the world of gymnastics.

Fierce Fiver Aly Raisman, who finished second in qualifying to make the all-around final, will do those same three events.

Why? Because of the two-per-country rule, instituted by the International Federation of Gymnastics, that allows just two gymnasts from a given country to compete in the all-around final.

Women’s Individual All-Around Final, Thursday, August 11 at 4:00p.m. Raisman is the reigning Olympic champion on floor while Biles is the reigning world champion, and they showed why.

The U.S. qualified first in every event final-Madison Kocian on the uneven bars and Biles on balance beam, floor exercise and vault.

“I just really wanted to do a good bar set and really swing and just flow and stick the dismount – the polishing touch”, she said.

Mikal Ramadan, owner of Ultimate Fusion Athletics, said although his gym isn’t meant to train Olympic athletes, it does help a lot of athletes who want to go on to compete at the college level. “I’m feeling pretty confident, and I’m rejoicing now”.

Watch the Daily Dismount to hear Olympians Courtney Kupets Carter and Jonathan Horton recap all the action of today’s team final. And Uzbekistan gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, at the age of 41, is competing in her seventh Olympics.
