Zlatan Ibrahimovic will get even better says Man United boss Jose Mourinho

The Foxes fought hard in an even game at Wembley Stadium but ultimately fell just short, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic heading a late victor for United.

Eleven weeks after scoring an extra-time victor for United in the FA Cup final at Wembley, Jesse Lingard returned to the stadium to put his team ahead in the 32nd minute with a solo goal.

League champions Leicester replied when Marouane Fellaini’s awful backpass let Jamie Vardy in to round David de Gea and score.

However, it was Lingard, whose sublime volley settled the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace in May, who opened the scoring when he slalomed past a quartet of attempted challenges before firing a low shot beyond Schmeichel.

“I’m very pleased with our performance”, he added.

“My individual performances will come”, he said to MUTV.

Mourinho has started off on the right path but more improvement is definitely needed in the team cohesion and style of play if United are to be champions of England and Europe again.

“So we are competing in every competition the club is in and we want to win whatever we can”.

Juan Mata has taken to social media to dedicate Manchester United’s Community Shield triumph to the club’s fans. This is my 31st trophy.

As Jose “I’m in my prime, believe me” Mourinho ditched his jumpers for a suit in the first competitive match of the season, an old acquaintance of his was left fuming (and not because of the jumpers).

“I enjoyed and watched the same team as last season, only the result is against us”.

Ibrahimovic concluded: “We play for the trophies and I’m super happy and super excited for the goal – but especially for the win because it’s a trophy for the team”.

But Mourinho played down reports of a further rift with Mata, who reportedly fell out with him at Chelsea, and says the decision was made to combat Leicester’s aerial threat.

As for United, Zlatan’s goal marks the end of a flawless day, as they also announced that Paul Pogba would be joining the club before kick off.
