Ford Motor Co plans to use low-cost engineering it learned in India to develop compact models for other emerging markets, executives said, emulating a strategy used by Asian rivals that outsell it in the world’s fifth-largest auto market.
Aboard the Ford Figo Aspire, a total of three engine options will be on offer – two petrol and one diesel.
The Figo Aspire could change all that because its base price is only Rs 4.89 lakh. The petrol variants are priced between Rs 4.90 lakh and Rs 7.80 lakh.
The sub compact segment sells about 30,000 vehicles a month and Ford is hoping to grab a decent share of the market. The Figo Aspire is also the first Ford product to be built at the company’s brand new production facility in Sanand, Gujrat.
While most Indian cars are more concerned about elegance and fuel economy, this new sedan is concerned on safety.
B-cars, loosely defined as compact cars, are key to the growth of automakers like Ford in India and beyond: global sales of such cars are expected to rise by more than a third to 11.4 million by 2020, according to IHS Automotive.
Designed from the ground up to protect occupants in the event of a collision, the Figo Aspire features a robust passenger cage created from high-strength steel, and dual front airbags as standard across the range. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre TDCI diesel paired to a 5-speed gearbox is capable of producing 99bhp and 215Nm of torque. That said, the Figo Aspire comes with some unique elements on the inside like multiple-storage pockets and MyFord Dock, which is a clever placement for charging or viewing your smartphone or Global Positioning System device on the centre console.

The Figo Aspire is available in four variants, namely, Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. This will allow Ford to price the vehicle very aggressively, approximately in the range of Rs 5.5 – 9 lakhs, ex-showroom.
