Marcotte was an account manager at Google in NY. Police in New York City say they believe the crime is random, and are still searching for her killer.
Google said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by Marcotte’s killing.
As swarms of people gathered Tuesday evening for a vigil honoring Vanessa Marcotte, almost every candle was taken before the service even began.
Princeton Town Administrator Nina Nazarian said townspeople are planning to hold a vigil at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday evening to show support for Marcotte’s family.
When asked about the similarities to the death of New York City jogger Karina Vetrano, who died last Tuesday and may have been sexually assaulted, police said they are not ruling out the possibility that the two are connected.
Investigators probing the killing of a New York City woman who went for a run near her mother’s home in central MA and later was found dead in the woods said they’ve received hundreds of tips but don’t have any suspects or know if she was targeted or attacked at random.

Vanessa Marcotte left her mother’s house in Princeton on Sunday afternoon for a run, but never returned. Her body was found in woods about a half-mile away Sunday night.
“We’re so terribly sad for her family and friends”, Colin Riley, the executive director of media relations at Boston University, told ABC News.
Steve Quigley, one of Marcotte’s professors at BU, said she reached out to him on several occasions after graduation to share job and internship opportunities.
Authorities in NY and MA do not believe the murders of two young women in the past week are related, but police in both states are working together to solve the mysteries surrounding their deaths. There hasn’t been a homicide in the town in the 27 years Powers has worked there, she said.
“We are asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons who killed Ms. Marcotte”, state police wrote on their Facebook page.
Marcotte was a 2011 graduate of Boston University, which also mourned her death.

She remembered that Vanessa would visit bi-monthly on the weekends and jog.
