Olympic Champion’s Grandma Wins Gold For Her Twitter Game

Peaty’s 74-year-old grandmother Mavis Williams must be in disbelief, too.

Mavis Williams has labelled herself the #OlympicNan, tweeting her congratulations to the 21-year-old swimming sensation and his GB team-mates.

“To see someone who’s your teammate achieve a new world record and becomes Olympic Champion right before you swim definitely got me pumped up”.

The proud nan even covered her house in bunting.

“My Grandson has done it”, the proud gran tweeted.

Paying tribute to his coach, Melanie Marshall, he added: “Coming out tonight she didn’t have to get me pumped up, I knew this arena would be absolutely ideal for me”. I never want to stand on the blocks as Team GB and not give it 100 per cent.

As midnight approached in Rio, Adam Peaty made a mockery of Great Britain’s 28-year wait for a British male Olympic swimming champion by destroying his opponents in the 100m breaststroke. Then, in the Semi-Final, he didn’t quite meet the World Record but he did come out of the Semi-Final in overall first putting him in a very good position heading to the final.

“I’m not going to settle for just this”.

I’ve got eight more years, maybe more, in this game.

“You don’t go out as much as you do when you were younger, now do you?” she told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Just as we predicted, last night was Adam Peaty’s night as he stormed ahead of his competition and stole the Gold Medal in the 100m Breaststroke final.

He returned to social media a few hours later, posting a picture of himself in the pool with eyes shut and arms outstretched seconds after taking gold.

“She’s a great nan and she’s always loved swimming”, he said after his victory. “Hopefully, I’ve done her proud”. In winning Olympic gold, Peaty added to his European, Commonwealth and World Championships titles.

Peaty said: “I was going to do well to get under 57.9 in the heats, but that absolutely blew me”.

“The only reason I didn’t move out was because of the winning formula”, said Peaty, who saw no reason for upheaval in the build-up to Rio.

She revealed Peaty “didn’t like the water” as a small child.
