Jason Bohn emulated Maruyama in a Canadian Tour event in 2001. In 2010 he was the FedEx Cup champion and PGA Tour Player of the Year. I joked with someone walking over to 11, ‘Hey what’s all the big fuss about?’ Kind of giving a hard time after birdieing 10.

“It’s an fantastic feeling”, said Knox. “I mean, really, on those days the most exciting thing that can happen is the group in front of you plays quick and your flight takes off a little early and you get home”.

His season was made at the Travelers, in which he was far off the pace entering the final round but became the talk of the golf world with the awesome 58.

The 31-year-old needed a par on the final hole to hold off Jerry Kelly by one stroke. “I birdied 10, birdied 11, birdied 12 and then it becomes a mental struggle”.

“The Tour Championship was my main goal starting the year”.

“(What) I’m proud of is my longevity.to still be out here and have a little life, win a year ago, days like this, that’s why it’s keeping me around and playing well”.

The win lifts Knox inside the top 20 in the world rankings and offers another reminder of his talent to European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke ahead of the biennial event against the United States in less than two months.

Knox trailed Dan Berger by three shots heading into the final round. Berger managed to hang onto the lead despite not making a birdie on the front nine. “It was a different golf course this afternoon than it was this morning”.

The 52-year-old Durant won on the par-5 18th after closing with a birdie on the hole in regulation for a 9-under 63. Knock shot a two-under 68 on the day, overcoming a bogey on No. 16 and a field full of guys determined to go low and knock him off. He birdied the 16th to go twelve under par and then parred the 17th and 18th holes.

The Scot hit his tee shot on the par-4 18th right and into the crowd, and his second shot into a green-side bunker below the hole.

After he made a 2-foot putt for par and his 58th stroke on the last hole, he hugged caddie Mike “Fluff” Cowan and walked up the hill toward the scoring trailer, accompanied by chants of “58, 58”. None of the putts were going in and nothing was really going my way, so today was a little bit of a cap-off for me.

On Sunday, Furyk carded the lowest round in Tour history when he recorded a 12-under 58 in the final round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

“Now everyone is texting me, ‘You were 13 (under), he was 12.’ Now that’s all the talk, and that’s just been in the last couple of hours”, Geiberger said.

As for the tournament itself, Furyk was +1 heading into the day, so even though he shot 12-under for the round, he still only finished tied for fifth. When Knox made par on 18, there Furyk was, in a tie for fifth with Berger (74), Robert Garrigus and Tyrone van Aswegen. Justin Thomas and Patrick Rodgers (268) tied for third.

Furyk became the first player to record a round of 58 or better on the PGA Tour when he reeled off a final round of 58 to complete an historic moment in the game. You can get hot.

“They showed me more love than they ever have throughout my career here”, Kelly said.
