Argentinian Tennis Player Gets Stuck In Rio Lift, Then Beats Novak Djokovic
Djokovic’s 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) setback Sunday night was caused in large part by ferocious forehand after ferocious forehand from a resurgent Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina. While Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal progressed in the singles with easy wins, the top-ranked Novak Djokovic was not as lucky, losing out to a resurgent Juan Martin del Potro.

“But you have to deal with it”.
The Serb will partner Nenad Zimonjic against Brazilian duo Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in a second-round men’s doubles match this morning (Singapore time). After the Serbian completed his career Grand Slam by winning his first French Open earlier this year, an Olympic gold medal was virtually all that was missing from his trophy case. The Argentine, who’s scheduled to play 14.00 PM local time, observed, ‘Pain is still there, if you see the stats I didn’t make backhand winners, but I will try to regain energy.

This is not the first time del Potro has gotten the best of Djokovic at the Games, having defeated him in London in 2012.
It was quite a night for del Potro considering his day began when he was stuck in an elevator in the Olympic Village for 40 minutes before he was rescued by Argentina’s handball team.
“It was really hard for me”, del Potro said about the quick turnaround.
Del Potro, ecstatic with the victory, sympathised with Djokovic.
But Serena said: “I wouldn’t say it’s devastating. we had a chance to compete for our country, we did the best that we can”. I’ve been trying to come back to tennis after the last three surgeries on my wrist.
The Gold Coaster regained her composure to prevail 6-3, 6-2, becoming the only Australian tennis player to record a win on day two. The same player who also upset Stan Wawrinka at Wimbledon hit three forehand winners in the second set tiebreaker alone to clinch the victory.
Meanwhile, Novak stated this loss as one of the most disappointing losses of my life.
Australia’s Daria Gavrilova went down in her first-round match 6-4, 6-2 to world number one Serena Williams, the defending champion who is chasing her fifth Games gold medal overall.
